Technical Support - Metrology

A purpose driven role for you

This role requires a Metrology or Quality Engineer to perform high-precision 2D and 3D inspections of automotive components using scanning technology (GOM/ Polyworks) and CMM equipment. You will be responsible for validating prototype parts against engineering drawings, ensuring strict GD&T compliance.

A Day in the life

Execute 3D scanning and 2D inspections on plastic and engine parts to validate dimensional accuracy.
Analyse scan data via Polyworks and GOM software to identify deviations from CAD models.
Validate prototype components (New Models) to ensure design intent is met within project timelines.
Interpret GD&T parameters on engineering drawings to ensure parts meet functional assembly requirements.

Diploma (Mechanical Engineering)

Technical Skills/Knowledge

Technical / Functional Competencies:
• Metrology Software Proficiency: Expert-level command over Polyworks and GOM Inspect for aligning scan data, creating colour maps, and performing 2D/3D comparisons.
• Advanced 3D Scanning: Hands-on expertise in operating Blue and White light scanners, including surface preparation, exposure setting, and point cloud optimization
• Precision Equipment Operation: Skilled in operating Fixed/Portable CMMs, Gear testers, Form measurement machines, and Surface Roughness testers.
• GD&T Interpretation: Advanced ability to read and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) to physical parts, ensuring functional assembly.

Behavioural Skills

• Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to identifying "micron-level" deviations that could impact long-term part performance.
• Analytical Thinking: Ability to diagnose why a part is "out of spec" rather than just reporting the error.
