Engineer - Body Design

A purpose driven role for you

The Engineer for Body Engineering is responsible for the design and development of Body parts like Fuel Tank, Sheet metal covers, Mirror, Latches, plastic covers and cowls for scooter and motorcycle models. His release responsibility covers conceptualisation, design and development of Body parts –both motorcycles and scooters – either in-house or all external projects or all inline projects. He is responsible to resolve the development issues to meet all the agreed projects targets concerning product, timing, quality and cost beginning from the pre development phase up to SOP.

A Day in the life

Timely release of Design as per Project schedule, CAD modelling , release of drawings , Verify Packaging , Prepare BOM for every drawing release

Issue resolution for the failures reported during development of the parts, Interaction with plant and Quality Teams
To work on new ideas and new innovation concepts and strive for patents , Check for patent infringement
Develop company design standards whether written or within the historical custom for Body Engineering

Academic Qualification & Experience

B.E/B.Tech – Mech Mechanical

Technical Skills/Knowledge

Desirable Skills :
1) Plastics parts Design / Sheet Metal Design

Knowledge of Plastics as well as Sheet metal part design, knowledge of manufacturing process like Mould design, Injection moulding.
Sheet metal processes such as Blanking, punching, Bending, Deep draw forming. Detailed knowledge of DFM, DFA, DFMEA, DFS etc. document preparation

2) System level skills –
Plastics Product Design, Master layout studies, Mounting concepts creation, Assembly sequence finalisation etc
Fuel system (Fuel Tank-Sheet metal /Plastic, Cap, Fuel cock & FI pump packaging etc.), Evapo system (Canister, ROV, OWV, PCV & Rubber hoses packaging & lay outing etc.), Mirror, Grip & Accessories etc.

3) Project management skills -
3.1) Excellent project management with monitoring of micro schedule & manning required meeting Time, Cost & Quality targets.
3.2) Timely closure of all open issues / failures / feedback from Cross-functional teams with corrective action plan.
3.3) Perform necessary checks and documentation before design release like Design review, Drg check, Regulation check, IP check, VAVE etc.
4) CAD skill – CATIA V5 -3D/2D
5) GD&T skill
